In a move to enhance healthcare services in Upper Egypt, Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population has signed two significant cooperation protocols with the Upper Egypt Development Authority. These agreements are part of the broader state-led initiative, “New Beginning to Build the Egyptian Person,” which focuses on improving healthcare and social services across the country.

This initiative aims to strengthen family medicine, expand diagnostic and surgical services, and provide essential medications to the region.

The protocols were signed under the supervision of Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, alongside representatives from the Upper Egypt Development Authority. The focus of these agreements is to elevate healthcare standards by upgrading family medicine centers, enhancing diagnostic capabilities, and improving hospital facilities. The collaboration aims to ensure that healthcare services are available around the clock, including during public holidays, and to provide inpatient services and advanced medical treatment facilities.

These partnerships are designed to meet urgent healthcare needs in Upper Egypt and contribute to the region’s long-term sustainable development.

One of the key objectives of the protocols is to enhance preventive and curative healthcare services. This includes expanding family planning services and improving the quality of healthcare provided at hospitals in Cairo and Alexandria, which are affiliated with the Therapeutic Institution. These measures align with the overarching goal of human development in Egypt, which prioritizes the health and well-being of its citizens as the foundation of national progress.

A critical aspect of the collaboration is the improvement of doctors’ housing in Upper Egypt. Minister Ghaffar emphasized the importance of creating a supportive work environment for healthcare professionals, as this will directly impact the quality of medical services provided. Upgrading housing facilities within health units is seen as a vital component of this initiative, helping to attract and retain skilled medical staff in the region.

Furthermore, the protocols establish a framework for continued collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Upper Egypt Development Authority. This partnership ensures the ongoing provision of comprehensive medical services, including diagnostic tests, laboratory procedures, and surgical operations. Hospitals participating in this initiative will operate 24/7, guaranteeing that healthcare services are available even during holidays, while also offering inpatient care, nursing services, and accommodations for patients in need.

With these protocols in place, the Egyptian government is making a bold commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and addressing the health needs of Upper Egypt, contributing to the country’s long-term vision of sustainable development and improved public health.
