Egypt has inaugurated its first domestically built marine ambulance, marking a pivotal expansion of emergency medical services to the nation’s coastal and maritime regions. The vessel officially entered service in Alexandria during a visit by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who underscored the state’s growing commitment to healthcare modernization.
“This marine ambulance represents a qualitative leap in the services we offer citizens,” said Prime Minister Madbouly. “It demonstrates the state’s determination to deliver high-quality emergency response across all terrains — land, river, and now sea.”
Manufactured entirely in Egypt by local professionals, the vessel adheres to international medical and navigational standards. Designed to operate in Egypt’s territorial waters, the 13-meter-long and 4-meter-wide ambulance can accommodate four patients alongside a medical and maritime crew. Powered by three engines capable of reaching 35 knots, the vessel ensures rapid response times in critical scenarios at sea.
Equipped with advanced navigation systems and maritime safety tools, the marine ambulance also carries a full suite of medical equipment, including oxygen tanks, vital sign monitors, ventilators, extraction tools, and emergency medications.
The crew, trained in handling a variety of medical emergencies under maritime conditions, is ready to respond to incidents on beaches, tourist marinas, passenger ships, commercial vessels, and even offshore petroleum platforms.
Dr. Amr Rashid, head of the Egyptian Ambulance Authority, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative. “This vessel was designed and built entirely by Egyptian hands. It reflects our readiness to serve a growing number of tourists, coastal residents, and maritime workers with swift and professional care,” he said.
The deployment of the vessel forms part of Egypt’s broader effort to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure. The government has been investing in service upgrades across multiple sectors, with a special focus on health access and emergency readiness.
With the addition of the marine ambulance, the Egyptian Ambulance Authority now operates across land, river, and sea — a move that reinforces national capacity to manage emergencies wherever they arise. As yacht tourism and maritime commerce expand, this modern marine ambulance symbolizes Egypt’s drive to align medical services with evolving national needs and international standards.
