Iranian researchers at the University of Tehran’s Biochemistry and Biophysics Research Center (IBB) have unveiled a groundbreaking biomedical system that uses the body’s own movements to generate energy for wound healing and health monitoring. The innovation, reported by Pars Today, could reshape the future of non-invasive medical care.

Unlike conventional devices that rely on external equipment, this platform is fully wireless, biodegradable, and powered by everyday actions such as walking. When activated, the system stimulates tissue repair or monitors vital signs automatically, offering a seamless patient experience.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the project is the use of biodegradable conductive inks based on zinc. These inks not only conduct energy but also dissolve naturally within the body after fulfilling their medical purpose, eliminating the need for surgical removal.

“This approach allows the skin to act as both an energy source and a treatment platform,” the researchers explained.

The ultra-thin, flexible electrodes can even be designed with aesthetic patterns, merging medical function with artistic expression. Experts say this dual focus on sustainability, functionality, and comfort represents a new chapter in biomedical engineering.

According to early evaluations, the technology holds strong promise for advancing wound care therapies while paving the way for innovative, eco-friendly health monitoring systems. By enabling the body itself to power treatment, the University of Tehran team has set the stage for a future where healing is not just effective, but also natural and sustainable.
