India and Saudi Arabia have taken a significant step toward strengthening their strategic partnership by approving visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic, special, and official passports. The bilateral agreement, signed in Riyadh, is expected to streamline official engagement and enhance institutional cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was formalized by India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Suhel Ajaz Khan, and Abdulmajeed bin Rashed Alsmari, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to ANI, the initiative falls under the framework of the India–Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council, which coordinates high-level cooperation across multiple sectors.

By removing visa requirements for officials, both governments aim to facilitate more frequent diplomatic exchanges and accelerate the implementation of joint initiatives. An Indian official familiar with the talks said the move would “significantly improve the ease of official travel and strengthen coordination between institutions,” reflecting the practical intent behind the agreement.

The announcement coincides with growing momentum in inter-parliamentary cooperation. It followed high-level discussions in New Delhi with a Saudi parliamentary delegation led by Major General Abdul Rahman bin Sanhat Al-Harbi, Chairman of the Saudi–India Parliamentary Friendship Committee within the Shura Council.

The talks focused on expanding parliamentary diplomacy, sharing legislative best practices, and promoting deeper mutual understanding.

Indian representatives emphasized the depth of historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two nations, noting that sustained engagement over the past decade has broadened cooperation in defence, energy, skills development, and emerging strategic sectors. The role of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia was also highlighted as a vital link, contributing to economic growth while strengthening people-to-people relations.

Overall, the visa waiver agreement signals a shared commitment to deepening trust, improving diplomatic efficiency, and advancing a comprehensive bilateral agenda. As both sides seek closer coordination in a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment, the move underscores the growing strategic convergence between India and Saudi Arabia.
