The strengthening of the Global South cooperation is on the top of the agenda for Brazil which assumed on Wednesday the rotating presidency of the BRICS.
As the Brazilian government said in a statement cited by China Daily, Brazil will also focus on facilitating the trade among its members by creating mechanisms for that purpose and on international governance’s reforming.
“The group is one of the key political and diplomatic forums for Global South countries, focusing on cooperation across various sectors,” said the statement by the Brazilian government, adding that – as the host nation until the end of 2025- “Brazil will also organize and oversee working group meetings, bringing together representatives from member countries to discuss and implement its priorities.”
The strengthening of BRICS’ institutional structure and collaborative projects among the countries of the Global South will also be high on Brazil’s agenda, which has among its key goals the improvement of the financing mechanisms to address climate change, promoting responsible and inclusive governance of AI as well as developing payment systems that would simplify trade and investment between member countries.
