Russia is ready to help Vietnam to enter BRICS as a partner country and supports for its involvement in the events of the bloc – initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, and China – in 2025, says the joint statement issued following Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to Hanoi.
The same statement also confirmed Moscow’s willingness to enhance cooperation with Vietnam in nuclear power development and to assist Hanoi in establishing a national nuclear power industry in the country, a step forward in the bilateral relations of the two countries.
Whereas Moscow is eager to strengthen its ties in Asia faced with its growing international isolation due to the war in Ukraine, Vietnam remains hesitant about becoming a full member of the bloc considering the desire for US support to diversify its defence partnerships and reach economic goals but also fearing the potential reactions from the Trump administration.
