New partner nations in BRICS, which expanded for the second time in two years, will not be allowed to vote on Ideas even though they’re permitted to submit them “to the judgment of the old-timers”, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said as quoted by TASS.
Per the high-ranking Russian diplomat, the status of the new BRICS partners, which have “received detailed, specific explanations of what this status entails”, is well-established and it “presupposes participation in BRICS mechanisms.” Ryabkov, however, clarified that “they are not allowed to make decisions, to participate in voting or coordinating documents.”
Ryabkov stated that 13 new states were welcomed to become partners in BRICS – as its global standing continues to strengthen – stressing that the newly announced terms were not made public to them prior to its creation so they can see how the nations react to the rule and how the economic bloc is being viewed internationally.
