Lindsay Mills, the wife of former NSA employee Edward Snowden – who became Russian citizen in September 2022 with a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin – has applied for Russian citizenship.

“As far as I know, she is going through the usual procedure, as it should be for everyone who is eligible. She has been living [in Russia] for more than five years, so the relevant documents have been filed according to the procedure that provides for obtaining citizenship,” Snowden’s lawyer Anatoly Kucherena shared in a conversation with TASS, noting that Mills “should have no problems with the procedure as she complies with the country’s laws.”

Showden, who was initially granted temporary asylum in Russia in August 2013, received his Russian passport in December 2022 and, at the time, stated the positive impact his Russian citizenship will have on his family.
