Troops of the People’s Liberation Army must increase military readiness and actively fight corruption – which hampers its modernization efforts- among its ranks and in the the defense establishment, pointed out the Chinese military leadership, stressing the importance of these actions.
“(We should) severely investigate and deal with corruption issues surrounding officers and soldiers,” said Zhang Youxia, first-ranked vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the armed forces’ discipline, training and combat preparation “amid the various tensions and challenges faced by China on different fronts, including the border with India.”
General He Weidong, second-ranked vice-chairman of Central Military Commission, pointed out the importance of intensifying real military training, “fostering a fighting spirit of daring to do battle and ensuring victory and building reliable, ready-to-deploy combat capabilities.”
