Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) has reaffirmed its commitment to constructing eight new nuclear power plants in cooperation with Russia, marking a major step in Tehran’s long-term energy and technological development strategy.

Speaking before the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, AEOI chief Mohammad Eslami highlighted the progress of Iran’s nuclear program and the country’s expanding partnership with Moscow.

“The construction of eight nuclear power plants in cooperation with Russia is on the agenda,” Eslami said, emphasizing that one facility is currently operational, two are under construction, and five additional plants are planned in Hormozgan Province, collectively capable of producing 5,000 megawatts.

Eslami also underlined Iran’s continued progress in radiopharmaceutical production, which supports hospitals and research centers nationwide.

“Producing radiopharmaceuticals has never stopped and will not be halted,” he stated, underscoring the resilience of Iran’s nuclear industry even amid recent damages caused during the 12-day Israeli-imposed war.

Between 2022 and 2024, Iran achieved roughly 500 scientific and technological breakthroughs, many of which, Eslami noted, have improved healthcare, agriculture, and industry. These include advances in irradiation technology that have extended the shelf life of agricultural products and innovations in plasma research for treating diabetic wounds and certain cancers.

Despite ongoing political tensions, Eslami reiterated that nuclear negotiations remain under the authority of the Foreign Ministry and the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). The announcement reflects Tehran’s dual focus on advancing peaceful nuclear technology while deepening strategic cooperation with Russia, positioning both nations as key partners in the evolving global energy landscape.
