Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed on Thursday it arrested a suspect from Central Asia who was planning to carry out a terrorist attack on a passenger train in Stavropol Region operating between the cities of Kislovodsk and Mineralnye Vody has been in.
The detained man, whose identity is not yet disclosed and who has allegedly pledged allegiance to an organization banned in Russia, was planning to escape to Syria to join a terrorist group after the attack he had conducted reconnaissance for and obtained necessary materials – components, chemicals, and shrapnel elements – to assemble a homemade bomb in his residence in the city of Yessentuki.
Russian security forces have prevented another terrorist attack last month targeting law enforcement officers in Moscow plotted by operatives from Central Asian countries linked with Afghan branch of Islamic State, ISIS-K, which were subsequently eliminated.
