With an initiative that aligns with its drive for sustainability and energy efficiency, Tehran presented a a strategic plan to minimise gas flaring at its refineries within 4 years, with the initial significant reduction planned by late March, the end of this Iranian calendar year, as reported by Tehran Times.
“Enhancing the supply chain efficiency is a key priority in line with the country’s strategic plans, including the Seventh Development Plan,” said Deputy Oil Minister, Saeed Tavakkoli, highlighting the importance of energy efficiency in Iran’s oil and gas sector.
Per Tavakkoli, “the natural gas accounts for 72 percent of Iran’s energy mix,” confirming that “while gas flaring levels are relatively low, a structured plan is in place to reduce it to a minimum.”
In an effort to identify inefficiencies and high-consumption areas, the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) is also implementing a comprehensive smart management system in Iranian companie, which includes the deployment of smart meters and data integration in the gas sector in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
