At the BRICS Agricultural Working Group meeting held in Brasília from March 12 to 14, 2025, Ethiopia highlighted its significant strides in agricultural development, food security, and family farming support programs. The Ethiopian delegation, led by Ambassador Lulseged Tadesse, presented the nation’s efforts to modernize its agricultural sector, which is a key priority for the government.
Ambassador Tadesse emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to improving food security through a range of successful initiatives, including the National Wheat Harvest and the “Basket Abundance” program. These programs have produced notable results, contributing to both food security and improved nutrition.
The ambassador also highlighted the ambitious “Green Legacy” program, which focuses on reforestation, food security enhancement, and job creation, aiming to create a more sustainable future for the country.
Ethiopia’s participation in the BRICS meeting underscored the importance of fostering agricultural cooperation among the BRICS nations. Tadesse stressed the need for knowledge exchange, technology transfer, capacity building, and increased investments within the group to address common agricultural challenges.
Brazil’s Minister of Agricultural Development and Family Farming, Paulo Teixeira, echoed Tadesse’s sentiments, underscoring the importance of deepening agricultural cooperation within the BRICS framework to strengthen global food security and sustainable agricultural practices.
This high-level meeting has served as a platform for the BRICS nations to discuss critical issues such as food security, sustainable production, and trade, paving the way for future collaboration and growth in agricultural sectors across the group.
