The failure to support the “liberal democracies” will come at a price, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock warned the US President Donald Trump, stressing that Europe must put pressure on its ally if that doesn’t happen.
“We’re increasing pressure on the Americans [so they know] they have a lot to lose if they don’t stand on the side of Europe’s liberal democracies,” Baerbock said following US-Russia talks that excluded EU and Ukraine’s representatives.
The Green politician also insisted – speaking at a campaign rally in Potsdam – that “nothing has been decided there” and warned against drawing any precipitous conclusions.
“No one can decide about war and peace for the Ukrainians or us Europeans, and this is the clear German stance,” she stressed, pointing out that no one is allowed to “force Kiev into a phony peace or capitulation,” which, as Baerbock warned could only invite further “war and violence.”
