President-elect Donald Trump was sworn today as the 47th president of the United States during the 60th Presidential Inauguration in the Rotunda of the US Capitol in Washington during which he has taken the oath – administered by Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court John Roberts – to the sounds of the presidential fanfare ‘Hail to the Chief’.
“From this moment on, America’s decline is over,” Trump said in his inauguration speech, pointing out that his election is a mandate to “completely and totally reverse” the “many betrayals that have taken place,” over the last four years.
“The journey to reclaim our Republic has not been an easy one. Those who wish to stop our cause, have tried to take my freedom and indeed my life. I was saved by God to make America great again,” Trump added, referring to the assassination attempt last July during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Newly sworn Vice President J.D. Vance, who took the oath of office moment earlier – administered by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh – called Trump’s inaugural remarks “a hell of a way to start the next four years.”
“You know, I didn’t know exactly what the president would put in that speech, and I hoped to myself he wouldn’t hold back, and sir, you didn’t hold back,” Vance added.
